Ise An Verstegen

DANCER | MOVER | MAKER | SHAKER

Ise An Verstegen works internationally and nationally as a maker, dancer, teacher and 'Acogny dance practitioner'.
Ise's work starts from embodiment, connection, collectivity and the respect, possibilities and natural strength of each body through rhythm and movement. From here she addresses social issues. In her work Ise An Verstegen interweaves worlds with an inclusive, transcultural vision and body language.

Ise chose Acogny and Acogny chose her

Since 2008 she has been working closely with Germaine Acogny, the mother of modern African dance. Verstegen is one of the few dance artists worldwide specialized and qualified to work with this technique - a dance technique and philosophy based on West African and Occidental dances.
Amongst other she is a teacher at l’Ecole des Sables, International centre for traditional and contemporary African dances, and the University of the Arts, Amsterdam (AHK).
For the 2018-2019 season, Verstegen received the 3Package Deal from the AFK, intended to stimulate talented young makers in Amsterdam.

Rythm is Dynamics

Commissioned by The University of the Arts Amsterdam, Ise wrote a research on an particular approach on dance-education, rooted in the transcultural approach on dance starting from rythm and dynamic connection within dance and dancers. The publication of 'Rhythm is Dynamics' can be found here.
